The Public Health Physicians of Canada (PHPC) and the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) are pleased to welcome Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer (CPHO), Dr. Theresa Tam, for a webinar that illustrates how a transformed public health system can address pressing public health challenges, such as climate change.
Every year the CPHO publishes a report to the Minister of Health examining the state of public health in Canada. Over the past five years, the CPHO annual reports have covered multiple public health issues, with a core theme of health equity. In the latest Annual Report, Mobilizing Public Health Action on Climate Change in Canada, Dr. Tam identifies the need to generate new knowledge and evidence, in part through novel research, to inform and guide public health action on climate change.
The webinar will include a short overview of CIHR funding opportunities to stimulate research related to the priorities identified in the 2021 and 2022 Reports.
There will be some time for audience questions toward the end of the session.
Speakers:
• Theresa Tam, Chief Public Health Officer, Public Health Agency of Canada
• Christian Baron, Vice-President Research Programs and interim Scientific Director, CIHR-Institute of Population and Public Health
Co-Hosts:
• Ian Culbert, Executive Director, CPHA
• Jasmine Pawa, President, PHPC
This webinar will be held in English only. The recording of the webinar will be posted on CPHA's YouTube Channel.
